چکیده

Abstract Background Acute myocardial injury and type 2 infarction typically occur in the setting of a concurrent illness. Differentiating acute from is challenging as it relies on assessment ischaemia. Indeed, some have questioned whether this distinction important, patients with both conditions are at increased risk future cardiovascular events. Whether similar role identifying those coronary artery disease uncertain. Purpose To determine events death differs according to presence or absence prior disease. Methods We conducted secondary analysis multi-centre randomised controlled trial 48,282 consecutive suspected syndrome. Patients an adjudicated index diagnosis were stratified they known previously defined revascularisation, infarction, angina. Cardiovascular adjusted for competing non-cardiovascular all-cause one year was compared. Results In 9,115 elevated cardiac troponin concentrations, 1,676 (18%) 1,121 (12%) had respectively. either condition older (mean [standard deviation] age 78 [11] versus 73 [16] years) more likely be female (55% 45%) than no history. Coronary identified 40% (454/1,121) 30% (509/1,167) injury, common without (23% [115/509]) 14% [158/1,167]; P<0.001) (20% [91/454] 10% [69/667]; log-rank (Figure 1). Similarly higher (31% [357/1,167] 18% [123/667]; (40% [115/509] [135/454]; 2). Conclusion recognised around third associated rates death. Risk doubled suggesting that investigation prevention may conditions. Funding Acknowledgement Type funding sources: Foundation. Main source(s): The University Edinburgh British Heart Foundation

Postprandial triglyceride levels in type 2 diabetic patients with and without history of myocardial infarction

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of death in diabetic cases. Studies have shown that hypertriglyceridemia is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disorders. Although triglyceride level is generally increased in postprandial periods, the association between postprandial triglyceride level in diabetic patients and cardiovascular diseases and myocardial infarction (MI...

ICAM-1 Polymorphisms (G241R, K469E), in Coronary Artery Disease and Myocardial Infarction

Background: Inflammation plays a critical role in atherogenesis. The initial step in atherosclerosis is the adhesion of leukocytes to activated endothelial cells mediated by ICAM-1, an inflammatory protein. Several polymorphisms for Intracellular adhesion molecule -1(ICAM-) gene have been described. Objective: To determine the possible role of G241R and K469E polymorphisms in development of cor...

Long-Term Outcomes in Patients With Type 2 Myocardial Infarction and Myocardial Injury.

BACKGROUND Type 2 myocardial infarction and myocardial injury are common in clinical practice, but long-term consequences are uncertain. We aimed to define long-term outcomes and explore risk stratification in patients with type 2 myocardial infarction and myocardial injury. METHODS We identified consecutive patients (n=2122) with elevated cardiac troponin I concentrations (≥0.05 µg/L) at a t...

Acute Kidney Injury, Myocardial Infarction and Death Following Brake Fluid Poisoning; A Case Report

Background: Ethylene glycol is a toxic alcohol which is used in brake fluid, antifreeze, coolants, preservatives and chemical solvents. Ethylene glycol poisoning usually results in depression of the central nervous system, renal insufficiency and cardiopulmonary compromise, while laboratory findings include metabolic acidosis, increased anion gap, increased osmolar gap and calcium oxalate cryst...

Evaluation of ejection fraction in patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention

Introduction: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a reperfusion strategy to increase life expectancy and ejection fraction (EF) in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients. We investigated the effect of location, severity, type of lesion, number and type of vessel involved and time of angioplasty on the increase in EF in STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI (P-PCI) a...
